Walking
I have noticed Lathan does not like to sit now that he knows how to stand. For that matter, he only wants to stand and do nothing else. It is a test of the ol' lower back to hold him up all day, but now that he has figured out how to take steps it is fun to see him "lead with his head." Here is a little video of Lathan trying to get to the foot rest were our cat Littlest was sleeping. Hope you enjoy. We are, tremendously.

Yeah I can stand on my own
Lathan can stand all on his own. Yeah for strong legs. Our cat Marcus who loves little Lathan is the source for Lathans motivation to crawl and stand. You see, before Lathan could move, Marcus was pretty safe anywhere he chose to sleep. Lathan figured out that if he tried hard enough he could eventually get to the cat. So after about 2 weeks of frustrated grunts and slow progression, he is finally able to scoot across the room fairly quick to Marcus. Well Marcus got smart and decided the foot rest was safety enough for him because Lathan was unable to reach him at that height. Not anymore. Lathan loves to be helped to his feet and love standing all on his own. Mamma's days are a bit busier as before, the tiny pieces of string, or rock, or whatever it may be, Lathan finds and quickly tries to eat it. It is quite funny but I never thought I'd like my vacuum as much as I do now.

Broccoli Anyone
Lathan this past week did something with his food that was hilarious to watch, so I am attempting to download a video for you all to watch and laugh. It made dinner that much more fun. Although he is still not eating real food yet, he feels very included when he can pretend, or practice.

Do you remember in elementary or high school sitting across from friends or just class mates in the cafeteria, and having that one or two individuals always staring at your food like if they stare long and hard enough you may offer them some??? Well Lathan has begun that practice... I have never felt so guilty for eating in front of someone until now. I guess it is because he is still solely on breast milk and is becoming more and more curious about what momma and daddy are doing putting that stuff in their mouths. I have given in occasionally and let him do a bit of tasting just so he feels included on the whole eating from a spoon ordeal. I can't turn away from those big beautiful begging blue eyes. Well that's it for now. PS. He is beginning to stick his bottom in the air and slowly tuck his legs underneath himself, soon to be crawling I suppose.

Counting
I have noticed that little people are smarter than we "adults" give them credit for. For example, Lathan is not yet six months old but he understands a whole plethora of things. Two tid bits I have picked up on him understanding are numbers counted in sequential order, and his feet. Lathan and I will count his toes, flower pedals, cracks in the sidewalk, clouds, leaves, ants, people, pages, pictures, keys, fingers, socks, fan blades, stars, dollars, coins, and anything else that can be counted. We also play a game were I count to three and if his feet aren't tucked away under the blanket by the time I get to three then I pretend to eat them by gumming his little toes. He squeels and screeches and laphes with a big toothless smile and his little dimple but never can get his toes to the safe spot under the blanket. He knows the numbers. You can see him tense up and grab his toes and try and put them in his mouth or somewere safe before I get to three. I can't wait to count the fish we catch together, the mountains we climb together and the books we read together. Well maybe next time we can talk about Lathan the explorer. Oh...for those of who are reading these blogs and want to know who is posting them, you will know it is Ben every time I start the blog with "I have noticed." Cheers.

Distractions
So I am trying to feed Lathan and put him down for a nap right...Sounds easy enough but why do I have trouble, trouble occurring usually on Saturdays. Ah hah, Ben is home, and my what a distractions he creates for Lathan. It's like the two of them can read each others minds and they love to stare and smile at each other. Food, no, Lathan is not hungry when Dads around, nor is he tired. I just say oh well, I'll try again in an hour. It's fun seeing the two take bond to each other. Absolute joy...
